The Adriatic Coast
If you choose southeastern Italy as your destination for your holidays, you will definetly find clean beaches, good beach equiptments, blue sea awarded with the blue flag, excellent hospitality that has always distinguished this area and mediterranean tastes and flavors.
The most beautiful places in the adriatic coast of Puglia are between Vieste and Trani, from Molfetta to Otranto via Bari, Monopoli and Torre del Orso.
In the eastern part of the Gargano Promontory you will find Vieste, a popular location surrounded by long sandy beaches. In the flat part of the small peninsula lies the quarter from the year 800 and modern part, while perched on the rocky hill ther’s the picturesque old town, typical of medieval times. Not far from Vieste there are breathtaking natural sceneries like the beautiful sea caves, the beautiful islands of Tremiti, the St. Michael cave and the St. Angelo mountain.
On the Adriatic coast, 43 km north of Bari, close to Castel del Monte, lies Trani: A city of art that preserves artistic and architectural treasures of a glorious past. The Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Pilgrim is an extraordinary example of Romanesque architecture in Apulia and the Svevo castle, built during the reign of Frederick II, back in 1233 are the symbols of the city. Protected by the walls of the Castello Svevo, it preserves the charming port in a small natural bay, in whose waters reflect the extraordinary and imposing façade of the Cathedral.
Molfetta: the city that has always had a symbiotic relationship with the sea, is today one of the most important fishing ports in Puglia and has one of the largest fleet of vessels of all the lower Adriatic. Among the natural beauty to be admired, is certainly the “Pulo”, large cavities of karstic of significant archaeological interest, as connected to human presence that covers a wide chronological span, from 7000 years ago until the nineteenth century.
Bari, Puglia, known as the city where the relics of St. Nicholas lie. One of the symbols in town is the Basilica of San Nicola that rises up in the heart of the old town. Its historic center is very characteristic, known as “Barivecchia”, protagonist of a millennial history that contrasts with the “murattino” area which street-map is like a chessboard.
Monopoli, the city defined by its history, a true polychrome mosaic, is considered today as one of the most beautiful places in the entire Mediterranean area, because of its sea and monuments and its picturesque old town. Monopoli is not far from the beautiful caves of Castellana and the zoo safari of Fasano.
At the heel of Italy along the Adriatic coast of Salento lies a 'huge tower dating back to the XVI century, symbol of the famous town of “Torre del Orso”. A beach area that has beautiful silver sand beaches, mild and pleasant weather and straordinary blue sea.
Going to the south along the Adriatic coast, we will find Otranto, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, known for its famous castle, the Castle of Otranto, which gave the name to the first Gothic novel in history. (The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole, 1764).
